FAQ - Work Permit

One Stop Service: Normally the granting of work permits and the extension of business visas can be a lengthy and time consuming process. However, persons who qualify may receive a work permit and immigration extension in three hours at the One Stop Service Center upon completion of the proper application.

Qualifiers are those with BOI promotion or those who personally demonstrate 2,000,000 Baht of paid up capital registered in their name in the company applying for a work permit, or if the company has 10,000,000 Baht or greater in registered paid up capitol, or companies with 30,000,000 Baht in assets.

Regional and Representative Offices: Special procedures allow for the granting of work permits for the foreign employees of regional and representative offices (business entities specifically defined by law). A representative office is defined as an office that does not engage in trade but is primarily dealing with quality control, reporting relating to purchases by head the Head Office.

Regional office are defined as those coordinating and supervising operations of other offices throughout the region, including consultation, marketing, training and sales promotion among other duties. Although all these activities are defined as non-trading activities, because the duties and are in the nature of "services" an alien business license is normally required.
